GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART)

The GWO Advanced Rescue Training course is a range of classes on advanced rescue and evacuation techniques in the wind turbine environment. During the training, students will learn how to behave during an emergency. They will learn regardless of the part of the turbine where it is located – hub, shovel, basement, dignitary or tower. The courses also involve learning how to behave during a rescue operation in a group and alone. The GWO Advanced Rescue Training modules consist of training:
  • ART Hub, Spinner and Inside Blade Rescue,
  • ART Nacelle, Tower and Basement,
  • SART – Single Rescuer – Hub, Spinner and Inside Blade Rescue,
  • SART – Single Rescuer – Nacelle, Tower and Basement.

The training takes place in a dedicated centre equipped with a lecture hall and facilities necessary for practical exercises. The exercise part assumes the use of basic evacuation equipment used in wind turbines.

Goals

The teaching principles of the GWO Advanced Rescue Training modules are designed to give participants the opportunity to learn. In connection with the choice of an appropriate rescue strategy (appropriate rescue method, technique, certified equipment and required personnel) for different rescue scenarios – incidents in the nacelle, tower or wind turbine basement (WTG). During the classes, students will learn about evacuation strategies during the rescue operation, as well as the identification and appropriate selection of certified and structural anchorage points, relevant for different rescue scenarios. In addition, they will be able to explain and apply the concepts of lift angle, angle factor and deviation, as well as explain national and local requirements or procedures for helicopter rescue within the WTG. This includes victim preparation, WTG preparation, helicopter safe zones and safe behaviour during rescue.
