Blade repair – repair of wind turbine blades
The GWO “Blade Repair” module was introduced on April 2, 2019 in Bilbao in response to the demand for recognizable wind turbine blade repair services. So far, such training has been offered by Siemens under the name “Blade B”. GWO Blade Repair Training is a more advanced version of the training than Siemens „Blade B”. Can be more compared to siemens „Blade C” training.
The Blade Repair module was prepared in collaboration with GWO members. Based on specific risk assessments, data from accident statistics and incidents related to the installation. Also to the maintenance and conservation of wind and wind turbine blades.
This standard describes the training requirements for blade repair that are recommended by GWO members (Siemens, GE, Gamesa, Vestas ect.)
GWO members recognize trained people as competent in the field of blade repair in the wind industry and accept a qualified person with the necessary knowledge to stop a dangerous situation at work in which they, are responsible for safety. Training is verified through the GWO WINDA database.
If the country’s legislation defines higher requirements for specialized training, the training organizer takes these requirements into account in the training program.
The delegates are able to do repair work in accordance with a work instruction within the following dimensions:
Trailing edge repairs up to 1.5 [m]
Leading edge repairs up to 1.5 [m]
Laminate repairs down to core material
Core material replacement up to 200 [cm²]
Surface repair to paint and gelcoat
After completing the Blade Repair (BR) blade repair module, delegates will be aware of the dangers and threats that arise when working with the inspection and repair of shovels in the wind energy industry. In addition, they will be able to control and limit risks and threats during work.
The GWO training module will also equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence that will enable them to respond adequately in the event of an emergency, as well as improve their safety, proper use of personal protective equipment, rescue equipment, procedures, and reliable craft.

Training in the field of blade repair GWO “Blade Repair” provides a permanent qualification. Yherefore, the validity period does not apply to training. Assumes that the Deputy is actively involved in the inspection and repair of composite materials. Also his permission does not expire.

The cost of the course is relatively low compared to the salary. After 2 weeks of work, the cost of the course will be refunded. Together with all expenses incurred to join the course.
