GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT)

The GWO Basic Technical Training course covers technical aspects of a wind turbine. Basic Technical Training standard consists of 4 separate modules and is covered by a 5-day course which ends with an examination. The training entitles you to work inside a wind turbine, giving you the competence to perform mechanical, hydraulic, electronic and installation work under the supervision of an experienced instructor. During the classes, the trainers will share their knowledge of the basic mechanical finish and will present the way of performing basic electrical installation, mechanical works and assembly of the turbine itself.

What does a BTT contain?

BTT training is an extensive knowledge resource allowing to work in accordance with accepted legal standards. The Combined BTT package is a set of training courses which, in combination, are cheaper and less time-consuming than single courses, one by one. The Basic Technical Training consists of modules: 

  • Mechanical,

  • Electrical,
  • Hydraulic.

The training takes place in a dedicated centre equipped with a lecture hall and facilities necessary to perform practical exercises, in connection with the needs of the course. Requirements

Before starting the training it is necessary to have an entry in the WINDA register. The Internet database facilitates the process of checking the competences of employees, therefore this facilitation has been introduced. The WINDA database contains each of the GWO trainings, so in order to start work you do not need to have them in physical form.

Physical requirements

The training module requires delegates to be physically fit. An unquestionable obstacle in taking up work after the course may be fear of heights. The course organisers do not require documented medical examinations from the trainees.

Basic Technical Training is also a series of practical exercises that will introduce the trainees to the nature of their future work. The purpose of creating the BTT electric module is to instruct students to perform basic tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician.

The Mechanical Training is part of the Basic Technical Training package and includes:

– principles of operation and control of braking systems, deflection systems, cooling systems and lubrication systems,
– to clarify the operation of the gearbox,
– practical exercises.

GWO BTT Electrical is a training course on wind turbine electricity. The classes include information on hazards and risks associated with electrical work and information on types of sensors. Described standards set out in the training are designed to maintain the highest quality of training and ensure that the trainees are safe in future maintenance and installation work. The purpose of creating the BTT electrical module is to instruct trainees in performing basic electrical tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician. All knowledge provided must be in accordance with working procedures.

GWO BTT Hydraulics is a training course on wind turbine hydraulics. The classes include information on the hazards and risks associated with hydraulic work and information how it works. After the Hydraulics course, the students will learn how individual cylinders and valves inside the turbine work. They will also learn how to evacuate the danger zone. Purpose of creating the BTT electric module is to instruct the students to perform basic tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician. This course is dedicated to people working at height on wind turbines in onshore and offshore environments.

The Hydraulics Training is part of the Basic Technical Training package and includes:
